What Truly Matters?
WHAT TRULY MATTERS?
I appreciate and miss my best-friend Steve Pettit, he was my brother from another beautiful mother. I’ll always remember the dinner talks we shared when you came to visit. This blog is for you brother!!
Hello everyone meet Coach Frank Sagasta, an elementary physical education teacher in Arizona and middle school leadership instructor in Arizona. An individual who finally achieved a breathtaking view of the universe. Sometimes, I cannot believe that I voluntarily took this position. After years of relentless hard work and sacrifice. And trending in my classroom for no room. I remember chasing a six-figure salary, a prestigious title, a huge home, and a luxury car. Yet, one day, as I was gazing out the window of my classroom. I realized that despite other people's external measurements of success, I need to make sure my measurements aren’t missing. I need to make double sure that I wasn’t unfulfilled but truly filled with the right amount of successes. So, in early 2020, I removed all notifications from my iPhone, coaching sports, long hours, and work-related stresses that affected my mental health and relationships. This self-awareness should prompt some of you because it is part of self-psychology or social-emotional intelligence. This coach embarked on a journey of self-discovery to redefine success, achievement, and satisfaction. To realign my life with the principles and values of what I was learning in 2011, ultimately finding happiness and fulfillment in a more authentic, purpose-driven existence. Rather than the monotony, hysteria, and crisis that was consuming other lives around me.
I’m sure many of us realize in today’s fast-paced world, society or civilization often defines success by external, materialistic possessions, or prestigious achievements as success. And we have all seen what happens to those individuals. That traditional view of success is limiting because it pressures people of all levels of age and backgrounds to pursue external ventures rather than investing in themselves internally. In the end — it isn’t the doctor that makes us healthier. It isn’t nutritious that makes us slimmer. It isn’t the teacher that makes you smarter. It isn’t some program that makes us rich. It isn’t the coaches that get you the big breaks. It is in the trainers that get us fit. It isn’t a guru that makes us feel more tranquil or in harmony. In the end. . . it is our responsibility to choose to listen, learn, and participate in the activities of making those decisions become relevant for life. True success goes beyond superficial indicators. Success shouldn’t be solely defined by traditional, materialistic markers, as they are to often lead to a lack of fulfillment, harmony, balance, and tranquility. Instead, as we make headway into April — I challenge you all to redefine success by aligning personal principles, values, and philosophy of well-being with one’s desires, dreams, and aspirations for a more meaningful and satisfying life.
This is a new month which means new goals or desires for myself and my family. We mustn’t allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by the expectations or opinions of others. I challenge you to teach yourself and those you love to redefine success. And to carve out time to cultivate a more meaningful existence because it is vital. Lastly, make time for self-reflection, self-examination, and perspective because it makes a profound sense of satisfaction, fulfillment, and happiness as we pursue our goals, dreams, and desires that genuinely reflect our purpose, passions, and aspirations.
