What Say You?
It truly is incredible that we only have forty days left of this year, my the year went by so fast. I know that some hopes, dreams, desires, achievements and successes have been broken because of the lack of motivation. Look I know, I too have been there! I've shared many times over and it can be frustrating for many. But what can you do to change this for next year? What type of motivation can arise that will help you stay the course? What type of tools, practices or conditioning can be done to help you finish strong?
I Coach Frank Sagasta have stayed the course for over five years now. And have applied much of the teaching from the traditional legends. Moreover, do I give credit to those who've applied the efforts to write great books, articles and blogs. Of course, I don't say this to impress you, but to press upon you the opportunity to gain the foot hold on the foundation of something extraordinary. I am talking about both internal and external motivation. For there are many different kinds of motivations in life. In fact, someone recently asked me "Coach, what is your motivation?" My answer is simple. If God gives me another day, I'll turn it into an opportunity and seize the moments and not look back. Find areas to improve in and be hungry about it! I made a vow or a promise that I will give my best that the creator has given me to conceive, believe and achieve the things I truly want for my life and to share them with others in the process.
Throughout this journey, I have spent many hours seating in meetings, attending events, clinics, webinars, podcasts, etc. I was looking for the answers or practices in motivation. In fact, I heard one orator and author say, I do not believe in motivation. I was shocked and right before shutting him out, he said with the same breath, that only some motivation can work...UH WHAT??? You just said that you didn't believe in it! Perhaps, the saying should continue (never let the words or thoughts of other walk throughout your mind with dirty feet). We all have listened to companies, schools and groups rely on motivation. I can still remember the Athletic Director of the institute I used to work at send us to coaching clinics to get coached up. I would bring my whole staff as a teaching environment. And the biggest area that really impacted my coaching career and life, was the word "FUNDAMENTALS." I seen my position as a coach to be the one to support, encourage, demand and reward my players and staff. But what happens when I'm out of the picture? When the encouragement, support, and fundamentals are gone, I began to dig deeper. I found that external motivation was temporary. It was the feeling that lasted the whole length of a meeting, event or clinic. It was emotionally based within our frontal cortex or the feeling and reacting part of the brain.
I have been very fortunate to have exceptional mentors and teachers throughout my life and more today with Breathe University. I started listen more to the fundamentals on how to motivate the internal area of my conscious and the subconscious mind. I found that the subconscious area within our mind never sleeps. And therefore it truly was more important to feed it the right stuff each day. I quickly learned that internal motivation was going to be the push to help me overcome and to achieve greater goals. I started feed myself positive thought and self-talks for three years. I would practice this morning 3 am and evening 9 pm. The self-talk was done before the mirror each morning for 15 minutes. I know this might seem crazy and that is because our minds have been programmed to do otherwise.
If you ever wondered why your external motivation always quits after days, weeks and months. It is a physiological blockage within the mind and the heart. Once you realize that you have the power and ability to reprogram the external motivation and to transfer it to your internal motivation. You'll live in a constant state of awe. Of course, it must habitually practiced until it becomes permanent. The subconscious mind can replaced old negatives and replaced with new positive seeds. These seeds can be areas like finishing school, time management, exercise, leadership, spiritual, learning, management, character, love, relationship, parenthood, etc. These are great seeds to plant in the fertile ground of your mind and heart. I personally believe motivation is something we all have and it is waking up and doing something worthwhile and bring self-satisfaction into your life over and over again.
If you'd like to get motivated and stay motivated your going to have to bring yourself to self-talk or prayer among others. I promise you'll see real change if you commit and your consist. If you want to measure it, just look at the people you allow into your life and into your mind. Ask yourself this question; are they bring value to your growth or is it toxic conversation and action? Because there should be more meaning and effort. Herein are the last I have found to help. Of course, self-talk which help carry you thought life internally. The others were self-read which requires you to read aloud of book that magnify your interest. Self-listen to positive directions and practices first thing in the morning. And lastly, self-write which requires you to write out your goals each week and to highlight areas within the books you've read.
I truly hope this trend helps one person in their endeavors.
Best,
